Film screening, artist conversation and public lecture with Jonathas de Andrade in Curitiba.

Jonathas de Andrade in Curitiba was a free public programme organised by Analize Nicolini / BraSA.Art, with the support of SOMA – People & Culture and the Secretaria de Estado da Cultura do Paraná, on 12 and 13 April 2026.

The programme took place in two contexts in Curitiba. On 12 April, SOMA – People & Culture hosted a six-hour continuous screening of Jangadeiros e Canoeiros, by Jonathas de Andrade, followed by an artist conversation mediated by Analize Nicolini. The event also included the participation of DJs Selecta Manzana and Sevyw.

On 13 April, the programme continued at Auditório Brasílio Itiberê with a public lecture by Jonathas de Andrade, in conversation about cinema, photography, installation and the processes of his artistic practice. The conversation was mediated by Analize Nicolini and Felipe Prando, with certificates of attendance issued to participants.

The programme was developed within the context of the artistic-curatorial occupation conducted by Analize Nicolini at SOMA – People & Culture since June 2025, and in dialogue with the exhibition Insisting on Existing: Protocols of a Public Studio, with critical text by Kamilla Nunes.

The presence of Jonathas de Andrade in Curitiba was not treated as an isolated event, but as part of a longer curatorial trajectory of encounter, formation, continuity and public context-building. Analize Nicolini first met Jonathas de Andrade in Recife in 2013, during the II Seminário Panorama do Pensamento Emergente, an encounter dedicated to contemporary curatorial thinking in Brazil.

The screening of Jangadeiros e Canoeiros expanded the exhibition’s field toward labour, territory, popular knowledge, collective permanence and sensitive imagination. The film brings together protagonists linked to the sea and the São Francisco River, articulating raftsmen, roleiros and canoeists through colour, form, gesture, work and memory.
